And now, something different

June 9, 2005

Lately, I have been looking through FCC rulings on broadcast indecency. One recent ruling concerned the television program Arrested Development, which I recently picked up on DVD. Combine the two and you get something that is almost edutainment (except for, well, the education and the entertainment): the first IPTAblog videoblog, or, is it a videocast? Podvideo?

IPTAblog Multimedia Extravaganza: Arrested Development, Indecency and the FCC (Quicktime, 18.8 MB, 5 minutes).

Update (Jun. 14): By popular demand (see the comments below), I've posted an updated version of the vblog entry that mixes the music at a lower volume. Considering that I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to video, any amateurish results are the direct result of that lack of knowledge.

Cool! Loved this piece. You need to get enclosures setup on your RSS2.0 feed so that I can subscribe to you in FireANT. Check out Freevlog.org for instructions on how to get that setup. Hope there's more where this came from.

Hey, nice job. Really makes a point about the current situation with the FCC and shows how videoblogs/podcasts can be used educationally. Keep up the good work! :)

Nice little entry there, but I think you need to turn the background music down a little, I was having trouble hearing what you were saying.

I've gotta say this way well done and I appreciated the choice of content but there were two elements that need to be changed. First, the choice in background music was grating and way too loud. I had a hard time making out your voice.

Secondly, the flashy text effects don't add a professional tone when they are easily done by anyone with iMovie. Stick to plane text without flashy little effects.

Other than those two points an amazing video. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the comments, all. I'm not too familiar working with video, so I don't really know what I'm doing in terms of the presentation. I'll clean up the audio mix on this later today.

As far as the text effects being "easily done by anyone with iMovie," I am that anyone with iMovie-- this is my first experiment with both iMovie and videoblogging. :)

Your video was almost good enough to be an excerpt from AD itself.

Nice video...

But for the love of Ned Beatty, please turn down the Banjos !

I teach media law at Miami University and I thought you did a great job in creatively presenting the indecency issue.
